Haiti – Tourism : Official presentation of the project “Destination Île-à-vache”
On Thursday, the Ministry of Tourism organized a presentation evening of the destination Île-à-Vache, at the Best Western hotel in Petion-Ville, in the presence of various private operators and members of the press.
The government intends to make of the Île-à-vache an eco-tourism pole leading in the Caribbean, by providing it among other things, with new hotels, tourist villages, parks and botanical gardens, while protecting its natural heritage and environment.
René Hubert, the Coordinator of the Steering Committee of the project “Destination Île-à-Vache” presented the progress of various projects and works having been launched on the island on August 20. These projects include, among other, the construction of an International Airport, the construction of road infrastructure starting from Kay Kok to reach East Point and the construction of a radio and a community center.
The Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, who was speaking after the presentation of preselected companies, welcomed the initiative. He also thanked the Government of Venezuela, which is committed to support the Government of Haiti, in the context of the development of the island. Indeed, a partnership was established between the two governments where Venezuela will invest in a major project to build a hotel and villas in Anse-du-Four.
The shortlisted companies namely The Haitian Consortium Blue Marlin and the American consortium “Holmes International Development” have respectively presented their project of hotel development on the island that require more than 150 million dollars of investment.
For the complete success of these projects, the company “Price Water House Coopers” (PWC), a company internationally recognized and the Haitian firm “Cabinets d’Experts-Comptables Mérové-Pierre” MPA), were selected to perform an audit of financial and technical capacity of the bidders at the request of authorities.
