Sunday, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, returned to Haiti after a 48-hour stay in New Orleans where she worked with the Municipality of the city, on the development of a joint program based on Cultural Tourism, Heritage Management and Tourist Police.

At the head of a delegation composed, among other, of Departmental directors of Tourism in the departments of North and Southeast, Ms. Villedrouin held a working meeting with Mitchell Landrieu, the mayor of the American city. Discussions focused among others on strengthening our institutional capacity especially in the field of Tourist Police with the Association of Sheriffs of the city, to collaborate to strengthen the Haitian Tourist Police to be launched on 27 September during the World Tourism Day ; the sharing of experience in restoring historic center, the promotion of cultural events (carnival and jazz Festival). The legal aspect and manner of operation of a management unit dedicated to public-private partnerships have also been taken into account.

At the end of this work session, the mayor of New Orleans, the Government of Qatar, the Task Force “Haiti-New Orleans Heritage” have signed a cooperation agreement for technical and financial assistance, with the Minister of Tourism.

Through this agreement “the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Haiti and the office of Mayor of the City of New Orleans expressed their common intention to work with and through Haiti – New Orleans Heritage Task Force, in order to improve together the capacity of cultural tourism in Haiti as part of a series of exchanges.”

On the sidelines of the visit, the Haitian delegation, presented the Project Destination Jacmel to the Task Force of New Orleans.
